The approach is just as simple as a phone or email to the celebrity’s representative asking if you can send them your product. Of course the ultimate product placement people used to strive for was the Oprah Winfrey Show, and I was one of those determined people! In 2004, I literally did a code mailing and sent Oprah Nelly’s Apple Bottom Jeans. Very soon after the shipment arrived I received a call from Oprah’s Stylist Andre and he expressed to me how much Oprah loved the jeans, I was beyond ecstatic!! Oprah ended up wearing the jeans on a few shows and then later gave them out on her coveted “My Favorite Things” Show. You can imagine how happy the client was.
There is something very important to consider, please be sure whatever you are sending the celebrity that your product serves a purpose in their life. Oprah is a curvaceous woman and all women with curves look for jeans that fit, so the product offered her some value. If you can add value to someone’s life, you will always be relevant to them.
