We all have a creative side, and a scientific side. For me I think mine are both are equally strong, I can’t say that one overpowers the other. I enjoy developing campaign strategies and positioning which is considered the science part of PR just as much as I do the creative part, the art of PR. I was forced to demonstrate my strengths in both areas when I was asked to be a part of the LIMITLESS Movie Campaign, I was the Urban Market Publicity and Marketing Consultant and I had literally 30 days to execute a fast breaking campaign and engage the Urban Audience. We were #1 at the Box office, read what the trades had to say:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/weekend-box-office-relativity-medias-169409 Limitless, drawing a B+ CinemaScore, played well across the country and drew an ethnically diverse audience (43% Caucasian and 57% non-Caucasian, including Hispanics, who made up 19%). It also played fairly evenly among genders, with females holding the lead at 53%.
The campaign was a success, but we all have creativity in us in some form or fashion, we all come from God, who is the ultimate Creator, and he has placed creative abilities inside all of us. My ultimate muse is God, and next I would say the people I have worked with give me inspiration. I have been blessed to work with some pretty talented people from behind the scenes to celebrities; most of the people I have worked with would be considered creative geniuses. Their creative energy fuels me to be more creative. But being inspired creatively by others began before I started working in the entertainment industry.
My mother and my sister use their hands and can create anything. My mom can create a couch, to an entertainment system to a formal ball gown. My sister is a fashion designer; she was designing clothes well before her formal college training at FIT and Michigan State. I grew up in a house surrounded by women who were always creating something. When my mind gets to creating a new project, product, or anything, my imagination gets to going until whatever God has birthed in me comes to a delivery, be it Fearless, my skincare line launching next month, you name it.
We all have creativity ability, I tell my students in my Live Your Dreams Program, to write down what they like to do for fun, what makes them smile, and if they had all day to do one thing what would it be? Trust you will think of something to create from there, when they do their dream business project, I am always amazed by their creativity, so with that being said it’s also reciprocal, though I inspire them with my teaching, they inspire me also!
Every Blessing!
